A Teacher is Finally in Space!

The space shuttle Endeavor launched today. Teacher-astronaut Barbara Morgan is aboard the flight. When the shuttle took off, Morgan was sitting in the center seat of the cabin’s lower compartment. The same seat that teacher-astronaut Christa McAuliffe occupied aboard the shuttle Challenger when it exploded a few moments after take off in 1986.

Morgan has waited 22 years to make this flight. Just like Earhart, she’s well aware of the dangers of flight. “Space exploration is risky. … You can try your hardest, there will be a risk. It’s a hostile environment. The technology is very complex, the machinery is all very complex. … ” said Morgan.

Amelia Earhart once said, “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity. The fears are paper tigers. You can do anything you decide to do. You can act to change and control your life; and the procedure, the process is its own reward.”

These words might be helpful to young female celebrities today like Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Lindsay Lohan who can’t seem to get their lives under control.

Yet, if they’ll merely make the decision to change their lives for the better, surely they can do it.

If the rich and famous can’t do anything they decide to do, then who can?
